Coachella Festival V.I.P. Sweepstakes Winner Announced!

The winner of the Mercury Festival V.I.P. Sweepstakes for our first music event, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, has been selected. Here’s our Q&A with Jeff Cagle, from Minneapolis, Minn.

Q: What were your first thoughts when you found out you won the Coachella trip?

A: My jaw dropped and I had this confused look on my face as I was listening to my voicemail congratulating me. Then I began texting my fiancée the exciting news and even forwarded her the confirmation email from Mercury Insurance. Needless to say, I responded right away to claim my prize and began preparing for this upcoming experience.

Q: How did you find out about the Mercury Insurance Festival V.I.P. Sweepstakes?

A: I found the contest while scrolling through my newsfeed on Facebook. I wanted to price out auto insurance policies before my current policy expired in July. And since a V.I.P. trip was being offered as a grand prize for Coachella, I thought it would be worth a shot.

Q: Had you heard of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival prior to entering the sweepstakes?

A: Coachella has been on my bucket list of festivals to attend for years because it’s a nice mix of bands from different genres playing together. It’s also been great to see Minneapolis being represented at the festival with performances by Prince and Atmosphere.

Some of my favorite bands that have performed at Coachella include Rage Against the Machine, Mastodon, Foo Fighters, Crosses, Queens of the Stone Age, Depeche Mode, Tool, Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Chemical Brothers, among other acts (although I am surprised my favorite bands, Deftones and System of a Down, haven’t performed there yet).

Q: Why’d you choose to enter to win a trip to Coachella out of all of the available festivals? Did you enter to win a trip to any of the other festivals and, if so, which ones?

A: I always wondered what it would be like to experience a festival as a V.I.P.. And Coachella seems to embody the ultimate experience of music, parties, and great times with great people. And you can’t go wrong with a lineup that includes AC/DC, Jack White, Bad Religion, Circa Survive, and Royal Blood, among other acts.

I also entered every contest except for Stagecoach because I’m not a country music fan. I love hard rock and heavy metal the most, but also enjoy other genres like hip hop, punk, classic rock, alternative, and oldies.

Q: Who do you plan to take with you on your V.I.P. trip?

A: I am bringing my best friend (and best man in my wedding this fall) Colin. He and I have attended numerous concerts over the years together – including Deftones nine times. Plus, he lives in southern California and has experienced Coachella, so it’ll be nice to have someone prepare me for the experience.

I would have brought my fiancée Rachel, with me. But she, too, will be traveling that weekend.

Q: What about the festival are you most looking forward to?

A: Great music and seeing the production of concert up close.

Q: Any additional comments?

A: Attending festivals is a great opportunity for anyone to discover new acts. I’ve had those experiences at Ozzfest, Lollapalooza, Riotfest, 93X-Fest (radio show from Minneapolis’ 93X), and Knotfest, among others. And now I am I get another opportunity to do so at Coachella.

There’s still time to enter for your chance to win a trip to one of the remaining four festivals. Visit www.axs.com/mercury by May 31, 2015 to learn more.
